This site gives information about the Arkansas Parent Teacher Association. Parents and educators can also access information about the National PTA's highly acclaimed parent involvement program, Building Successful Partnerships, as well as check out issues of monthly newsletters.

 

National PTA 
Information about the National Parent Teacher Association can be located here. This site contains information about PTA’s history, current legislative activity, programs that the PTA is involved with, links to state PTA groups and other child advocacy organizations, as well as discussion groups.   The Parent Resources section also contains articles on how parents can help their child with school.

 

U.S. Department of Education Parent Information and Resource Centers

This website provides a program description of Parent Information and Resource Centers (PIRCs) in all 50 states, as well as links to each state’s website.  


The Administration for Children and Families 
The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is responsible for federal programs that promote the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals, and communities.   Parent educators can search this site for services for families and information on policy and planning. 

 

American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry 
The Facts For Families section is of special interest to parent educators and to parents. It contains articles/fact sheets related to a variety of concerns, such as ADHD, ODD, conduct disorders, suicide, etc. These articles are also available in Spanish and Arabic and a few other languages. The remainder of the site is mostly intended for the mental health professional.

 

ChildStats.gov 
This is the official web site of the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics, which is a working group of Federal agencies that collect, analyze, and report data on issues related to children and families.   It offers statistics and reports on children and families, including: population and family characteristics, economic security, health, behavior and social environment, and education.

 

Child Trends, Inc. 
Child Trends features information and research about the latest trends in child well-being, as well as programs that work for youth and children.

 

Children’s Defense Fund 
Information about the Children's Defense Fund can be found here along with information on Head Start, Healthy Start, Fair Start, Safe Start and Moral Start and No Child Left Behind.    There is also information about programs and policies and a list of state offices.

 

Children, Youth and Family Consortium 
The Children, Youth and Family Consortium's web site is a bridge to a wide range of information and resources about children and families. It connects research, teaching, policy, and community practice. The site features policy, reports and information about community partnerships.

 

Colorado Parent Information and Resource Center 
The Colorado Parent Information and Resource Center, which is funded by the Department of Education, produces this web page. There is a section specifically for educators under Resources.   Additionally, information on No Child Left Behind can also be found on this site

 

Colorin' Colorado
IReading Rockets, a multimedia initiative of PBS station WETA has launched this web site created specifically for Spanish-speaking parents to help their children learn to read in English. It features illunstrations and entertaining video clips. The site also includes information for educators who have English language learners in their classrooms.

 

Connect for Kids 
This site is designed to help parent educators make communities better for families and children. It features recent news stories, articles on a variety of topics, and book reviews, among other features.

 

Cyfernet 
The Child, Youth and Families Education & Resource Network website is divided into sections for early childhood, school age, teens, parent/family and community.    Also included is information on Cyfernet programs and trainings.

Get Ready to Read!

Get Ready to Read (GRTR)! is a national initiative to build the early literacy skills of preschool children.   Parents, early childhood educators, and child care providers can use the tools and strategies found here to help prepare children to read and write.

 

Handsnet 
Handsnet is a web site that serves to link human service organizations online.  It highlights headlines,  legislation and issues  on a variety of interest areas affecting human services organizations.   It also features information on social worker job openings.

 

Hispanic Family Learning Institute
The Hispanic Family Learning Institute is a division of the National Center for Family Literacy and is designed for professionals who work with English Language Learners (ELL) so that they may better understand and educate their Hispanic students and families.

 

The National Association for the Education of Young Children

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is the nation's largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of programs for children from birth through third grade. NAEYC Affiliate Groups work to improve professional practice and working conditions in early childhood education and to build public support for high quality early childhood programs.

 

National Center for Early Development and Learning (NCEDL)

A national early childhood research project supported by the US Dept. of Education's Office of Educational Research and Improvement. NCEDL focuses on enhancing the cognitive, social, & emotional development of children from birth through ages eight.

 

National Extension Parent Education Model
This is an electronic version of a parent education model of critical parenting practicies developed by Charles A. Smith from Kansas State University, et al. This full text report outlines a model of parent education that is intended to provide common ground for extension professionals throughout the Cooperative Extension System.

 

National Criminal Justice Reference Service
NCJRS is a federally funded resource offering justice and substance abuse information to support research, policy, and program development worldwide.   It features A to Z publications and products as well as information on funding opportunities.

 

National Community Education Association 
The National Community Education Association maintains this site. The NCEA strives to provide leadership to support parent and community involvement in school education and the formation of community partnerships. The site features publications which can be ordered or resources which can be downloaded.   The resources page also contains links to grants and funding as well as other areas of interest.

 

National Institutes of Health 
This site provides background on the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. It contains current and past archives of news releases and events.   Health information, grant and funding opportunities, news and events, and research can all be located on this site.

 

National Network for Child Care 
This site features articles, newsletters, training opportunities and information about online or distance learning programs.    Child care resources can also be explored by state.

 

Parents as Teachers National Center, Inc. 
Information about the Parents as Teachers program and how parental involvement in the PAT program can benefit children can be found at this web site. It also features professional development, parenting tips and a database of programs by State.

 

The Pew Charitable Trusts/"See How We Grow"
This site features publications by the Pew Charitable Trusts.   Also of interest to parent educators is a section on funding opportunities.

Rural Fathers

RuralFathers.com is a website dedicated to help professionals work with fathers and young children living in rural America.   They provide easy to use, downloadable materials in both English and Spanish. 

 

School Psychology Resources Online 
Links for the school psychology community can be located here!  Research learning disabilities, ADHD, functional behavioral assessment, autism, adolescence, parenting, psychological assessment, special education, mental retardation, mental health, and more!

 

Strengthening America’s Families 
This OJJDP funded website has examined effective family programs for delinquency prevention. Information provided includes literature reviews and an overview of model programs.

 

US Department of Health and Human Services 
This site provides information about the DHHS and it’s activities. There is a section on Families and Children, as well as sections on Policy and Funding Opportunities.

 

Wonder Wise Parent 
Charles A. Smith, a Kansas State University professor of Child Development, developed this page. Parents and parent educators visiting this page are offered the chance to take credit or non-credit courses online in different areas of child development. For those not interested in taking courses, there are sections on community programs, humor, book reviews, board games for parents and children, and more!

 

Zero to Three
Zero to Three’s web site has both parent and professional sections. Professionals will find professional topics A to Z, public policy initiatives and training opportunities to assist them in working with parents of children aged birth to three.
