Toddlers & Tantrums

If your agreeable little one has become contrary and it seems battles (big and small) brew over everything, then this class is for you! Linda Patterson, M.Ed. will present tips on taming tantrums and turning this stage from terrible to terrific.

Make Learning a Priority in 2010!  Creating a Home Environment for Learning and Effective Parent Teacher Communication

Preparing for Parenthood: What To Do After The Baby Arrives!
January 12, 2010 (6-9 pm) TUESDAY

Nicholas Long, Ph.D. will present a seminar designed for first-time expectant parents. The focus will be on discussing various parenting issues, including preparing for the role of a new parent, infant development, infant stimulation, infant temperament, day care, preventing sleep and feeding problems, and injury prevention.

Parents play an important role in helping their children develop good homework and study habits.    This class is filled with proven strategies and techniques to promote the skills your child needs to be successful.

Parenting Younger Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder
January 26, 2010 (6-8 pm) TUESDAY

This workshop, presented by Mark Edwards, Ph.D. will include discussions of the nature and causes of Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), resources and treatments available, and specific parenting skills used to improve behavior. This is designed for parents of younger children, not teens.

Reading with Young Children
February 2, 2010 (6-8 pm) TUESDAY OR

Good reading skills and a love of books are key in a child's future success in school.    This class examines the ways parents can foster those skills while at the same time, promote problem solving and social-emotional understanding. Presented by Linda Patterson, M.Ed. Designed for parents of children ages 2-5.

Being an Effective Parent during the Toddler and Preschool Years
February 9, 2010 (6-9 pm) TUESDAY

Presented by Nicholas Long, Ph.D., this class is designed for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. The focus will be on discussing various parenting issues, including discipline, sleep problems, self-esteem, sibling rivalry, children and television, and injury prevention.

Bringing Out the Best in Your Young Child “Helping Your Child Learn and Behave”
February 16, 2010 (6-8 pm) TUESDAY OR
February 17, 2010 (10 am – 12 pm) WEDNESDAY

Research has shown that parents can guide children through the small steps it takes to master new skills, help children to develop a good self-image, and provide motivation to stay with a difficult task.    This class will examine the effect that positive attention from parents and other adults has on the behavior of children.   Presented by Linda Patterson, M.Ed. Designed for parents of children ages 2-5.

Right From Birth
March 6, 2010 (9 am to 12 pm) SATURDAY

Parents will be led through the stages of early childhood from birth to 18 months and given practical advice on how adults can prepare infants for a lifetime of learning from the day they’re born. Participants will receive: A Caregiver’s Guide. Presenter: Linda Patterson, M.Ed.

Being an Effective Parent of 6-12 Year Olds
March 9, 2010 (6-9 pm) TUESDAY

This class, presented by Nicholas Long, Ph.D., is designed for parents of 6-12 year old children. The focus will be on discussing various parenting issues, including discipline, promoting self-reliance, communicating with your child, peer pressure, and school-related issues.

March 16- April 6, 2010 (6-8 pm) TUESDAYS OR
March 17 - April 7, 2010 (10 am – 12 pm) WEDNESDAYS

Researchers have spent decades studying what motivates children to behave and can now say what discipline methods work and what don't.   Join us for this four-session "crash course" of evidence-based practices that bring out the best behavior in young children and at the same time, prepares them for school success.   This series is designed for parents of children aged 2-5.   Presented by Linda Patterson, M.Ed.

School Readiness is Child's Play

Come to this interactive class to learn child-directed play skills.   You'll experience fun and practical ways to promote a child's friendship skills, language development, and academics while expanding his/her attention span and building self-confidence.   Designed for parents of children aged 2-5.   Presented by Linda Patterson, M.Ed.

Raising a Thinking Child (4 week series)
May 3-24, 2010 (6-8 pm) MONDAYS

This four part series parenting curriculum trains parents and children in the art of problem solving and how to resolve everyday conflicts beginning at age 3.   Also teaches life-long skills to encourage non-violent actions and helps promote the student learning process at an early age (3 to 5).   Presented by Linda Patterson, M.Ed.

Parenting Young Children with ADHD (Behavioral Interventions)
May 25, 2010 (6-8 pm) TUESDAY

This class is designed for caregivers of young children with ADHD. The focus will be on non-medication strategies for managing the behavior of children with ADHD at home and school. This class is not designed for parents of older children with ADHD.
